


Part of the nation’s nutrition safety net for over 45 years, WIC now serves over 6 million pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children through their fifth birthday. WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and social services for millions of low-income families, and it plays a crucial role in improving lifetime health for women, their infants, and young children. This effort is designed to inform discussions about new investments in anti-poverty programs as well as reforms of, and funding levels for, existing programs. We synthesize and amplify the work of poverty researchers around the country on program effectiveness. They hope to get stationed overseas when Maddie is a little older so she can experience other parts of the world.As part of Policy Futures, we examine “what works” when it comes to federal and state policies and programs to reduce poverty and promote opportunity for low-income Americans. Every milestone, every snuggle and every moment with Maddie has made life that much more meaningful and beautiful for her parents. A rainbow baby, Maddie has been the sweetest blessing.

Maddie’s parents think she could grow up to be a dentist just like her mom – she’s already fascinated with teeth!Īs world travelers, Maddie’s parents have moved five times with the military, traveled to over 30 countries and 20 states, and have already brought Maddie on plenty of adventures. Together as a family, they enjoy the outdoors, travel, animals, photography, and trying new foods and restaurants. Just like her mom, Maddie entered the world with a full head of hair, big eyes and the most joyful attitude. Maddie’s dad is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy and has served our country for 16 years as a Lieutenant Colonel physician.

Her mom and dad came from first-generation immigrant families from the Philippines, and both of Maddie’s grandfathers served in the US Navy. Maddie’s mom and dad are high school sweethearts and have been together for 22 years, including 9 years of long distance. Maddie has a furry big sister, a French bulldog named Zoe. She also supports her local zoo as a member! Does Maddie have any pets? Maddie’s parents are world travelers and are excited to bring Maddie along on their many adventures – her first international trip was to Vancouver, Canada! Maddie loves everyday adventures, too – she thrives in her swim lessons, music classes, and even hiking and paddleboarding with her mom.
