Danica and her team at the City of Vancouver won the 2020 Canada Green Building Council Government Leadership in Sustainability Award recognizing achievements in forward vision, strategies, planning, and development of facilities. Danica is passionate, visionary strategic leader with over 30 years of experience in the private, non-profit and public sector. Danica provides strategic leadership and vision for the BCIT campuses planning and development, as well as facilities services and operations. Speaker: Danica Djurkovic, Architect AIBC, LEED® AP, Vice President, Campus Planning and Facilities, BCITĭanica is the Vice President Campus Planning and Facilities, and a member of the BCIT executive leadership team. Danica and Selina from Campus Planning and Facilities will discuss how we meet these targets which includes everything from state-of-the art new buildings, low-carbon district energy system and building automation system optimization. BCIT has a carbon reduction target of 33% reduction by 2023 and 50% reduction by 2030. Danica Djurkovic and Selina Liu will share how BCIT advances sustainability in the building sector.
At the Summit, BCIT was also excited to launch the Centre for Ecocities.īCIT plays an important role in advancing sustainability in various sectors. The School had taken the lead to convene the conference program. The theme was ‘Socially Just and Ecologically Sustainable Cities’.
The conference brought together over 1000 delegates from around the world to discuss issues of urban sustainability. Since 1990, this globally focused conference has run every two years in such diverse locations as Melbourne, Australia and Abu Dhabi, UAE, and we were delighted to bring it to Vancouver. The BCIT community and its many partners participated at this opportunity to connect individuals and organizations to likeminded people around the world. Due to the School’s leadership in education and training for sustainable built environments, Vancouver successfully won the bid to host the next Ecocity World Summit from October 7 to 11, 2019. The School of Construction and the Environment had submitted a bid in collaboration with Tourism Vancouver and the Vancouver Convention Centre West to host the Ecocity World Summit in 2019.
